Jubilee Celebration

SoGA and the Grove Park Group are hosting a celebration of the platinum jubilee of HM Queen Elizabeth II.

When? 5 June 2022 Where? Strand on the Green (facing The Steam Packet)

Why not join us to help organise this fantastic event?

Please contact Ann Collins: ann.collins9@btinternet.com or Lucy Cufflin: lucycufflin@gmail.com

Plant yourselves on the grass or drop off your deck chair! Bring a picnic or take advantage of the fabulous ‘specials’ our local pubs, restaurants and cafes will be offering on the day.

Live music outside The Steam Packet – we are keen to include some local talent so if you are interested in

performing let Jon the landlord know @ jon.gillespie@brunningandprice.co.uk.

We are closing the top end of Strand on the Green to give us lots of space for fun and games –

Morris dancing, games, competitions and activities for all the family.

Don’t miss out on the community cake stand where we will be selling locally made Jubilee cupcakes.

All proceeds going to a very local charity – The Hounslow FoodBox.

‘Do the Strand’: Strand on the Green resident and local London Blue Badge Guide, Guy Fairbank, will be leading a walk along Strand on the Green. On this 90-minute stroll you will meet a very ‘U’ writer and a director of blockbuster movies, a Bond baddie and a rogue male, a cannibalistic artist and the composer of a best-selling charity single, and ‘Help!’ out the Beatles. Meet at The Steam Packet at 11am and 2pm.  Cost: £10 per person. Limited places so book ahead @ guythelondonguide.com.

Fun on the water – very exciting shore-line and river activities to be announced soon

– watch this space! We are looking forward to a fabulous day!

Happy to help? Fancy joining in and offering an hour or two of your time on the day?

To celebrate the Platinum Jubilee we are hosting four exciting competitions – open to everyone who loves our fabulous stretch of the Thames, judging criteria are originality and inspiration.

  1. Compose an original poem inspired by the phrase - ‘What Strand on the Green means to me’

  2. Looking for something a little more down to earth? Write a limerick starting with the line ‘There was a lady from Strand on the Green’ (swap lady for other 2 syllable descriptor – e.g. young/old man or other person descriptor or even animal etc., e.g. fat cat)

  3. Design a Strand on the Green coat of arms – traditional or modern, and encompassing aspects of Strand on the Green

  4. Submit a photo you have taken that captures the spirit of Strand on the Green.

Two age group categories in each competition - 18s and under and adults. Entries to be submitted by 20 May 2022 in the first instance as JPEGs or PDFs to lucycufflin@gmail.com (please put Strand on the Green competition in the subject line).
